Dr. Mario Capecchi

Hello everyone! I'm back from Maryland and I had a fantastic time! Pictures of the trip are coming soon, but til then I wanted to tell you about a fun opportunity I had.
On Monday night I was able to attend a lecture for my stake fhe activity. The guest speaker was Dr. Mario Capecchi, a molecular geneticist and Nobel prize winner. He spoke about genetics and the process that he co-discovered that earned him the prestigious award then he told us his background and history. I was just so impressed with him! He was born in Italy and was orphaned during WWII and didn't even receive any type of formal education until he reached the USA at age 9. At that point he couldn't even read or write! He was obviously very bright and caught up quickly and continued to pursue his education til he became one of the forefront geneticists in the world. I don't plan on becoming a geneticist but I can honestly say that I love school and learning and it just made me super excited to start school at the University of Utah in January!
