Holiday season is over

I love the Christmas season, but I have to say that it feels good to be done with it and back to my normal routine. I had a wonderful Christmas filled with family and fun, and for New Years I spent the weekend in Las Vegas. Pictures of that trip will come as soon as I get them from everyone else in the group. Here are a few from the last couple of weeks:

my big brother Nick was in town from Portland for a few days and I got to go to dinner with him

took a day off of work to go snowboarding with my friend jake

does everyone know what G-Milk is? that fantastic, oddly shelf-stable, flavored milk from Gossners dairy? My family has loved them as long as I can remember and we successfully got me nephew hooked on them too!!

Me & Jaidance on Christmas morning.

my dear friend Amy Naser got married

my brother Matthew and his girlfriend Marcell were in town for Christmas and stayed with me for a few days. Jake & I made them breakfast before they left.

Sushi night with some friends. Mel has a hard time using chop sticks, so I helped her out.

She finally got it!

Christmastime fun!

This is the busiest time of year at my night job (williams sonoma) and other than keeping up with that and my day job, here are a few things that I've been doing this holiday season:

Surprising Melanie at work with cupcakes for her birthday

eating dinner at Cheesecake Factory after volunteering at the Festival of Trees for Primary Childrens Hospital. Angela, Krista, Jeremy, Jeff, me & jake

I had 12 girls over for dinner then we all went and saw New Moon!

Calling all addresses

Hello friends! The christmas season is here and it is wonderful! I'm loving the snow, the lights, the trees, the bows - everything! Last week I was able to get tickets for both the First Presidency Christmas devotional and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir Christmas concert with Natalie Cole. I love christmas music and it just brings the spirit of the season like nothing else can! Then yesterday we had our ward christmas sacrament meeting program. I'm still playing the piano for ward choir so I had a lot of practicing and rehearsing to get ready for it. It turned out really well, but I'm glad it is over, it was a lot of work! Pictures are coming soon, but for now I need something from all of you: addresses! I'd like to get my christmas cards out this week, so leave a comment or email me in the next couple of days. I hope everyone is making the most of this magical season and remembering what christmas is really about!

Pictures from Maryland

So I finally got the pictures from my trip to Maryland off of my camera and made a slideshow. I had such a fantastic time hanging out with my family out there, trying new things (like goose hunting!), seeing the sights and eating yummy fresh seafood!

Dr. Mario Capecchi

Hello everyone! I'm back from Maryland and I had a fantastic time! Pictures of the trip are coming soon, but til then I wanted to tell you about a fun opportunity I had.
On Monday night I was able to attend a lecture for my stake fhe activity. The guest speaker was Dr. Mario Capecchi, a molecular geneticist and Nobel prize winner. He spoke about genetics and the process that he co-discovered that earned him the prestigious award then he told us his background and history. I was just so impressed with him! He was born in Italy and was orphaned during WWII and didn't even receive any type of formal education until he reached the USA at age 9. At that point he couldn't even read or write! He was obviously very bright and caught up quickly and continued to pursue his education til he became one of the forefront geneticists in the world. I don't plan on becoming a geneticist but I can honestly say that I love school and learning and it just made me super excited to start school at the University of Utah in January!
