Country Folk

This summer has been so busy with work and school that I felt like I needed a little vacation before school starts again on the 23rd. So where did I go for my much-needed rest and relaxation?.....Roosevelt, of course! My friend Melissa grew up there, and she kindly invited me and about 10 other friends to go experience the country at her parent's house. We had a blast!

By the time we got there of Friday night it was dark. So we got a quick bite to eat, then headed to a reservoir a few minutes away from Melissa's house. She then showed us that if you light those ground flower fireworks, then throw them in the lake they actually spin on top of the water. My pictures didn't turn out well, but it was so cool to see the fireworks going off on top of the lake!

It was the Uinta Basin Celebration days, so Saturday morning we woke up and made our way to the city parade

Melissa's dad owns a furniture store in town, so we all went and tried out the couches and lazy boys.

Then we all crammed into cars and headed to the Ute reservation to go caving.

Me & Krista jammed into the front seat of the truck on the way to the cave

A few of us exploring the cave

Battle wound. I scraped myself up a bit in one of the tunnels

group photo! we weren't told before the trip that we'd be caving, so we ended up with only 5 flashlights and a few headlamps for the whole group

a little bit away from the cave, there were some sinks where a little stream disapeared under the rocks. Crazy Austin decided to free climb the rock

Us trying to balance on a log that was about 6 feet above the stream

When we got back, Melissa's dad was nice enough to take us all out horseback riding! I got to try bare back

Saddled up for a real ride.

Krista has always wanted to drive a tractor, so after riding horses, Melissa's dad gave us girls a chance with his new John Deere. We all got to drive it (with his help, of course), then he put all three of us in the bucket and took us on a ride around the hay field. He had been bailing hay all day, so when we got out, our back-sides were filthy.

A few of the boys in the group decided that they needed to prove their manhood by wrestling a bull. It took three guys to finally take the little guy down and we were all in tears laughing at their attempts

This gorgeous sunset said good night to us at the end of the day

Most of the group left on Sunday morning, but a few of us stayed back to go to church with Melissa's family and relax. It was such a fun weekend and it reminded me of how glad I am that I was able to grow up in a small town too. I love living in a city right now, but there is nothing better than good old country fun!

Oh my adventure. That looks like so much fun. My favorite photo is a toss up between that GORGEOUS sunset, and you flashing your battle wound :). Seriously so fun.
