Jake & I have a goal to see the Northern Lights. Last week we heard reports that the largest solar flare in 5 years would be hitting Alaska on Thursday. We had already planned to go to Baton Rouge to visit my dad for the weekend, but flights to Louisianna weren't looking. So we decided, last minute, to head to Alaska. We stayed with my friend Natalie about an hour outside of Anchorage and spent the weekend enjoying the beautiful scenery. Unfortunately, it was too cloudy to get a glimpse of any of the Auroras - Bummer! We will definitely try again another time, but we still had a blast. I don't think I blogged about it, but I visited Natalie in September and caught the gorgeous fall colors. Then seeing it at the height of winter convinced me - I would totally move to Alaska. I know that sounds crazy, but it is just so pretty! And the number of outdoor activities is endless. Here's a bit of our trip:
Good morning Alaska! The view from out Natalie's front door

Natalie and her cute cabin in the woods

icy roads and crazy snowbanks

SO much snow - I love it!

Stopped by Natalie's restaurant for Alaskan King Crab legs. yummy!

and baked Alaska for dessert. So pretty!

Mountains and almost-frozen water of Cook Inlet. It was here last fall that I saw a school of Beluga whales

Park in Anchorage with fun ice sculptures

Gorgeous sunset!

Thanks Natalie, you're the best!
